A Translator’s personal ad

On the occasion of the special online ELIA Together event, I took a stab at writing out what I look for when I’m seeking new language service company partners. As a nod to February being the month of love, I’ve taken the liberty of putting it into the form of a personals ad.

In the past five years of freelancing, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a number of different agencies—with varied levels of personal and professional satisfaction. While not all of these relationships have stood the test of time, through them I’ve been able to get to the heart of what works for me.

Me: Bona fide US ENG Transl. living in France. High standards, inquisitive, never late, not the jealous type. Dislikes wasting time or money. Foodie, jazz lover, needs her own personal space. ISO LSP that has their freelancers’ back and likes an open working relationship.

You: Know your clients, and know the value you provide. Interested in symbiosis. Employ PMs with social IQ + EQ. Responsive—even to old school phone calls. Stable. Pay on-time, and pay attention to QA. Not a requirement to get my sense of humor, but it never hurts…
